Civic engagement is one of our core values — a value we see best realized through the Harward Center for Community Partnerships. By leading Bates’ efforts in community-based education, the Harward Center gives you the opportunity to spearhead programs that meet community needs, promote active citizenship and enhance your own Bates education. So if you’re here, and you want to help, then check us out at an Admitted Student Reception.
A lasting impact
A recent plan by three Bates students, which offered Tanzanian street children a survival alternative to a pervasive sex-for-food trade, ended up winning $10,000 from the 100 Projects for Peace program. The lives of these Tanzanian children will be forever changed because Bates students like you acted on their opportunity. While at Bates, who will you help?
Bonner Leaders Program
You have a vital role to play in society. At Bates, we’ll help you nurture and mobilize that role, as you improve the lives of the individuals and communities around you. Not only does our partnership with the Bonner Foundation allow you to learn about civic engagement, it also provides you with the financial and programmatic support necessary to actually engage and develop your community.
