Student Financial Services
Nearly half of our students receive financial aid, and the average annual aid package is about $38,200. Bates meets 100 percent of calculated financial need, and has a need-based financial aid budget of about $29 million.
Grants and loans
Bates is committed to making its rigorous educational experience accessible and affordable to all admitted students, regardless of family financial circumstances, and offers need-based financial aid to eligible students. More than 44% of Bates students receive need-based grants (gifts) ranging from $1,000 to more than $57,000. Bates also offers a variety of education loans for students and parents.
Financing options for parents
Bates offers several financing options to help all families manage expenses. These include a 10-month payment plan that permits you to spread costs over the course of the academic year, rather than making one payment at the start of each semester. PLUS loans and alternative loans are other options that allow you to spread costs out over a greater period of time.
