INTEREST IN ART, DANCE, DEBATE, MUSIC AND THEATER

If you are interested in expressing your interest in art, dance, debate, music and/or theater at Bates, please follow the below instructions:

ART AND VISUAL CULTURE
If you are applying to Bates and plan to pursue the Arts in college, please send your resume and a labeled CD/slides/DVD to admissions at Bates College, 23 Campus Avenue, Lewiston Maine, 04240. Please fill out the Optional Arts Form and send it with your labeled materials. If you would like the materials to be returned to you, please enclose a self-addressed and postage pre-paid envelope.

In addition to filling out and attaching the Optional Arts Form to your submission(s), please clearly present a label on your CD/slides/DVD with your full name and details about each of your submissions. For example: Artwork – 1) Oil painting, Untitled #3, 2009, 2) Paper collage, Shipyard, 2009. Also important, please:

• Submit no more than 10 different images of work completed within the last two years. These images may be submitted either as slides or as digital files.
• If slide portfolios are submitted, they should be placed in a clear slide sheet.
• Digital submissions should on CD with images saved in JPEG file format, with the widest dimension not to exceed 1800 pixels or approximately 360 ppi at 5 inches wide. 

• Material not submitted in this format cannot be reviewed.
  

DANCE
If you are applying to Bates and plan to pursue the Dance in college, please send your resume and/or a labeled CD/DVD/video to Bates Admissions. Please fill out the Optional Arts Form and send it with your labeled materials to admissions at Bates College, 23 Campus Avenue, Lewiston Maine, 04240. If you would like the materials to be returned to you, please enclose a self-addressed and postage pre-paid envelope.

In addition to filling out and attaching the Optional Arts Form to your submission(s), please clearly present a label on your CD/ DVD/video with your full name and details about each of your submissions. For example: Dance – 1) Modern dance performance, Primitive Mysteries, lead role, 2009. Please be sure to identify yourself in the image. If you plan to submit a resume as well, it should also indicate what styles of dance you are most familiar with now (e.g., modern, jazz, ballet, hip hop, ballroom, clogging) and whether you are interested in pursuing choreography or production of dance.

DEBATE

If you are applying to Bates and would like to send us additional materials to demonstrate your interest and experience, please include a resume and/or labeled 10 minute CD/DVD/video with your application to admissions at Bates College, 23 Campus Avenue, Lewiston Maine, 04240. If you would like the materials to be returned to you, please enclose a self-addressed and postage pre-paid envelope.

MUSIC
If you are interested in music at Bates and have specific questions, please contact James Parakilas at jparakil@bates.edu.

If you are applying to Bates and plan to pursue the Music in college, please send your resume and/or a labeled CD/DVD/video to admissions at Bates College, 23 Campus Avenue, Lewiston Maine, 04240. For example: Music – 1) Jazz piano performance, Blue Monk, 2009. Please send samples of different works, each recorded in one take. The whole recording should last no more than ten minutes and should highlight you as a performer or composer (or both). Composers are also encouraged to send a written score in addition to, or instead of, a recording.

THEATER
