60’s ROCK-WHEN THE MUSIC MATTERED - Today, 4/26, 8 pm - Mays Center (Silo) - THE DECADE OF THE 60S was one of the most interesting periods in American history. Through all of the good and bad times, it was the music that brought us together and sometimes tore us apart. The political turmoil, the social upheaval, the hippie movement, the Vietnam War and the generation gap were all reflected in the popular music of the day. The Beatles, Bob Dylan, Jimi Hendrix, The Supremes, The Beach Boys, Simon & Garfunkel, The Rolling Stones, Otis Redding, and yes, even The Monkees, were the sounds filling the airwaves throughout those turbulent years. 60's Rock - When the Music Mattered, and exciting multimedia trip through the 60's with Barry Drake, on of rock music's foremost historians, will celebrate, examine, clarify and put into perspective one of the most exciting decades in our music history. This great presentation features hundreds of slides, video and music clips. Sponsored by the Chase Hall Committee - this Wednesday night, 8 pm, in the Mays Center.
The BATES DEMOCRATS invite you to a general meeting this Today, April 26, at 8:00 PM (to be followed by an episode of West Wing). All are welcome. – Pettengill G52, Keck Classroom |

Come watch PARAGRAPH 175: In this documentary film, historian Klaus Müller interviews survivors of the Nazi persecution of gay men, many of whom were interred in concentration camps during World War II because of the German Penal Code of 1871, Paragraph 175. "Their moving testimonies, rendered with evocative images of their lives and times, tell a haunting, compelling story of human resilience in the face of unspeakable cruelty. Intimate in its portrayals, sweeping in its implications, Paragraph 175 raises provocative questions about memory, history, and identity." Thursday 4:10 pm in Keck Classroom (81 minutes)Sponsored by OUTfront
