Today's events and programs

The Smith JA’s will be showing the documentary THE LETTER in the Mays Center today, April 3rd. This documentary discusses the 2003 Many and One Rally held at Bates in opposition to the white supremacists meeting in Lewiston to discuss the “rampant Somali problem”. A discussion about the film and current Bates climate will follow. All are welcome to attend. Pizza for all! Mays Center at 5 pm

Take a break from your studying to listen to a great photographer discuss her work. TANJA ALEXIA HOLLANDER will be giving a slide lecture. She is a nationally recognized artist currently living in Auburn. Olin 104 at 7:30 pm. Today April 3.

HILARY PUTNAM, philosopher emeritus at Harvard University, visits Bates College to address the topic "The Collapse of the Fact/Value Dichotomy" at 7:30 p.m. Today, April 3, in Chase Hall Lounge, 56 Campus Ave. Sponsored by the Bates English department, Putnam's talk is open to the public at no charge.

REMINDER TO STUDENTS REGARDING FINAL EXAMINATIONS: Scheduled final examinations for Winter 2006 courses begin Thursday, April 6th and end Tuesday, April 11th.  (There are no scheduled examinations on Saturday or Sunday). Most final examinations are scheduled in the room in which the course met during the semester. “Rural Poverty: Christian Reflections in Action” THE BATES CHRISTIAN FELLOWSHIP is sponsoring an experimental workshop with Rural Community Action Ministry in Leeds, ME.  RCAM provides assistance to the rural poor in communities north of Lewiston.  We will have sessions on the situation in this area, Bible studies on the prophets’ and the gospels’ insights about poverty and justice, hands on work projects, and worship experiences associated with Holy Week.  All are welcome.  Cost is $125.  For more info to sign up, contact Bill wcutler by April 2nd.  Space is limited to 12 participants.

GRASS FIELDS: looking for an area to enjoy the warm sunshine?  Please use the following areas on campus:  Page field, Rand field, Bardwell Field, and the Bill field.  These areas are available for general student use during the rest of Winter Semester.  Please wear sneakers - NO CLEATS!   The baseball, softball, football, and soccer fields are NOT in condition to be used at this time.  Thank you for your cooperation!
