INBRE Graduate School Travel Support

The Outreach Core of the Maine IDeA Network for Biomedical Research Excellence (INBRE) has funds available for students to visit eligible graduate programs in Maine and in other IDeA states. Eligibility requirements are described below:

Eligibility
Academic standing: Students must be current juniors or seniors enrolled at an INBRE institution: Bates, Bowdoin, Colby, College of the Atlantic, University of Maine, University of Maine – Farmington, and University of Maine – Machias.

Travel dates: Proposed travel must not take place later than two months post-graduation.

Destinations: In-state travel is valid from the student’s home institution to The University of Maine (Orono) or a partner institution in the PhD Program in Functional Genomics or PhD Program in Molecular Genetics and Cell Biology (MMCRI, The Jackson Laboratory). Out of state travel must originate in Maine and include an IDeA state. IDeA states include:

Mississippi

New Hampshire

Puerto Rico

Vermont

Delaware

Kentucky

Montana

New Mexico

Rhode Island

West Virginia

Hawaii

Louisiana

North Dakota

South Carolina

Wyoming

Programs: Eligible programs award Masters or Doctorate degrees in the biological sciences (biology, biomedicine, bioinformatics, veterinary, public health) in one of the states listed above.

Funding limits: Awards will cover travel (mileage or airfare), lodging and food. Mileage will be reimbursed at the standard government rate of approximately $.40 per mile (subject to change).  An individual in-state award will not exceed $275. An individual out-of-state award will not exceed $500.

Selection and Awards
The Maine INBRE Outreach Core will review all applications and make awards. Award criteria include strong travel justification and efficient use of proposed funds. Students will be notified by email the total amount of their award. Students should keep all receipts for food and lodging and submit these receipts to MDIBL for reimbursement. Airfare may be purchased through the Laboratory Travel Agent, or the student could be reimbursed.

Deadlines
January 30 (spring and summer travel); July 30 (fall and winter travel).
