FINAL REMINDER: Registration for Fall 2006 semester courses and On-Campus Short Term units ends today at 4:00 p.m. at which time randomization for oversubscribed limited enrollment courses/units will be run. If you have not yet met with your advisor for advising and hold removal, and are unable to locate him or her today, see your advisor's department/program chair.

Today, March 10th is -"NATIONAL WOMEN AND GIRLS HIV/AIDS AWARENESS DAY" - HIV/AIDS is increasingly affecting more women in our community, nation, and world.   In acknowledgement of this, the Maine Aids Alliance is sponsoring events around the state to educate one another by listening to the stories of women and girls personally affected by HIV/AIDS.  All are invited to Skelton Lounge at 4:00pm today,  March 10th. Our speaker, a 43 yr. old woman residing in Lewiston, has offered to share her experiences and insights about awareness of a disease that does not discriminate. Free HIV Testing for Women  -   today , March 10  10a - 3p - STD Clinic   79 Main St. Auburn  (Across from Gritty's) - No appointment necessary for this special test day.

SCIENCE & MATH PANEL - TODAY, MARCH 10th at 4:15 PM at Muskie Archives.  Join us for a catered dinner after the panel!  (RSVP to Lucia at ltierero@bates.edu)  Come hear the experiences of many accomplished women in biology, chemistry, environmental studies, geology, public health, and math! They will speak of their professional lives and their successes as women in science. Following the panel, there will be a catered dinner to allow further discussion with the panelists. This weekend, the FILMBOARD is showing Good night, and Good Luck.  George Clooney’s second directorial effort, the film chronicles broadcast journalist Edward R. Murrow’s fight against Senator McCarthy’s fear mongering and its resulting censorship.  Nominated for several Academy Awards, including Best Actor and Best Screenplay, the film has received some of the strongest reviews of the year.  As always, admission is only $1.  Today & Saturday: 7:00, 9:30.  Sunday: 2:00 & 4:30.

AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL HUMAN RIGHTS FILM FESTIVAL: Today: “Street Fight” in Olin 105.

CONTRADANCE:  Traditional New England folk dancing to the band Wake the Neighbors.  No experience needed; all dances taught and called.  Admission:  $8/$7. Free to Bates Students with I.D.  Sponsored by the Freewill Folk Society.  Chase Lounge, today at 8 pm.

COMEDIAN KYLE CEASE will perform a free show in the Mays Center at 9 pm, on tonight. He appeared in 10 Things I Hate About You and Not Another Teen Movie. In May, his ½ hour special on Comedy Central will debut! He is an amazing comedian and this is one show you don’t want to miss. Sponsored by CHC.

DISCOVER SCUBA WEEKEND - Learn more about scuba diving and the Bates Scuba Society this weekend!!!!!! Come and have a good time at the Under the Sea Dance this Friday night in the Little Room.  Feel free to come wearing your dive gear, bathing suits, and other tropical attire.  No admission fee. Come try out scuba diving for free this Saturday at 11:30am in Tarbell pool. Pool sessions will be about a half hour long and taught by our very own residential PADI certified dive instructor.  Sign-ups will be held at the dance this Friday night.  Email ghenkes@bates.edu for any further questions about this event.

BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS, Saturday, March 11th - only $10 round-trip!  This Saturday the Student Activities Office is happy to be offering another great opportunity to visit one of America's great cities - Boston.  The luxury coach leaves from in front of Chase Hall at 8 am, and leaves Boston at 8 pm, giving you about 9 hours to visit friends, see historical landmarks and even do some shopping.  To sign up and pay come to the Student Activities Office in Chase Hall.

Ménage à Trois Masquerade !!!!!  Mardi Gras is officially over, but its spirit is alive at Bates. The French club is having its first annual MARDI GRAS DANCE. All you need to wear is a mask!   Come have fun, get a free mask, and catch your share of beads the Friday. (No flashing necessary, we will be tossing out everything for free!)  Funds will go toward helping the victims of hurricane Katrina, whose devastating effects are still visible in New Orleans.  Tickets go on sale  at a cost of $3. At the door, you pay $4. Cool catch: Come in a group of 3 (ménage à trios = threesome) and the third person is free (i.e. $6 for the group !)  Venue: The Little Room (old game room) Date: Saturday, March 11, 10:30 pm to 2 am

There is a PROTESTANT CHAPEL SERVICE Sunday at 5:30 PM.  The theme is "Stories of Faith (and Doubt)."    All are welcome.

New England’s Best A Cappella, Live at Bates! The Manic Optimists Present the AWESOME A CAPELLA SERIES this Saturday, March 11 at 7pm in the Benjamin Mays Center (Silo). Brandeis VoiceMale, Tufts Amalgamates, and the Colby Eight will be joining the Man Ops for a great concert. As always, admission is free! Saturday night. 7pm. The Silo. See you there!

Wednesday March 15, 7:00 p.m., Muskie Archives.  Hope for the Perilous Journey Ahead: Engaging the Volatile Mix of Religion and Politics in Christianity, Judaism and Islam.  Charles Kimball, Professor of Religion at Wake Forest University will deliver the 2005-2006 BERTHA MAY BELL ANDREWS LECTURE in Ethics and Education.  An expert analyst on the Middle East and on world religions in a comparative context, Professor Kimball will explore the intersection of religion and politics in the United States.

6:00 pm  COLLEGE SHUTTLE - The shuttle runs on Friday and Saturday nights from 6 pm - 12 am, and Sunday from 12 pm - 6 pm.  The shuttle runs to Auburn locations at the beginning of each hour, and runs to Lewiston locations on the half hour.
