LECTURE: Beauty Without Borders? Fashions, Global Feminisms, and Neoliberalisms - A Lecture By Dr. Mimi Thi Nguyen - Today, March 23, 4:15 pm, Pettengill Hall, G52 (Keck Classroom) - This paper looks at the women's NGO Beauty Without Borders and its effort to build a beauty school in Kabul to teach Afghan women the art and commerce of beauty. How do dress and beauty constitute not just metaphors for geopolitical contests but also the pragmatics of imperial and neoliberal policies? FILM: "The Untold Story of Emmett Louis Till" - The film that helped reopen one of history's most notorious cold case civil rights murders is the result of this director's 10-year journey to uncover the truth. Many consider this case to be the major catalyst for the American Civil Rights Movement that changed the course of history. The New York Times says, "...it is impossible not to be stirred with sadness and outage" and the New York Magazine says that this documentary is "..the most important documentary of the year." This weekend THE FILMBOARD is showing Walk the Line!  The film tells the story of Johnny Cash’s life, focusing upon his romance with June Carter.  Enjoying great reviews, the film has been particularly praised for the performances of its two leads, Joaquin Phoenix (Best Actor nominee) and Reese Witherspoon (Best Actress winner), both of whom do all of their own singing.  Don’t miss the chance to see one of the best and most entertaining films of the year!  As always, admission is only $1.  Friday: 7:00, 9:30, Saturday: 2:00, Sunday: 2:00, 4:30.  Olin 104.

This Saturday the Student Activities Office is happy to offer a FREE RIDE TO THE MAINE MALL in South Portland.  The bus will leave from in front of Chase Hall at 12 noon, and will be back to campus by 5 pm.
