MUSIC, MUNCHIES, AND MASSAGE - Wednesday, March 29, 7-9pm in Skelton - Stressed out?  Take time to relax before hitting the books again Wednesday night.  The Peer Educators are sponsoring a Stress Relief Break.  A limited number of appointments will be available for a 10 minute neck and shoulder massage with a licensed massage therapist. You must sign up in advance and in person at the table by the ramp beginning at 5pm TODAY.  Appointments are on a first come basis.   Stop by for chai, cookies, and relaxing music.

This Wednesday, the FILMBOARD will be showing Syriana!  Featuring an Academy Award winning performance from George Clooney, the film explores the oil industry from multiple perspectives.  Landing on several “Top 10” lists, Syriana is one of the best reviewed films of the year, and marks the final special weekday showing of the semester.  As always, admission is only $1.  Wednesday, 7:00 & 9:30.  Olin 104.

Mushada Muslim Students Club and the Bates Middle East Peace alliance will be screening “PARADISE NOW”, a thrilling story of two Palestinian, life-long friends who decide to commit a suicide mission in Tel-aviv. ANIMAL RIGHTS ACTIVIST: This Wednesday, at 8:30 pm, in the *Ronj*, 'Farmer Brown' from Farm Sanctuary will be speaking about factory farming, and animal rights, environmental impacts, and our moral and religious obligations. ("What we are seeing in factory farming, the commodification of animals into production units, is having a proportional effect on the farming community and the lives of those involved in the industry. I have chosen to find a healthier, more compassionate way to live and to promote the ideals of farming community.")  Never heard of Farm Sanctuary? Not sure what factory farming is? LECTURE:  Thursday, March 30th at 7:00 pm in Pettengill G50 0 David Foster, Regent's Professor of Spanish, Women's Studies and Interdisciplinary Humanities at Arizona State University will give a talk on "Women and Film in Latin America." The talk is sponsored by the Dept. of Romance Languages and Literatures, the Divisional Chair of Humanities, College Lecture Committee and the NEH Program Fund with additional support from the Department of History and Women and Gender Studies.

DESIRE - Film by Julie Gustafson and the Teenage Girls' Documentary Project - Thursday, March 30, 7:00 p.m.- Olin 104 - A Panel Discussion with director Julie Gustafson and filmmakers Kimeca Rodgers and Tiffanie Johson will follow the screening.  Nearly a decade in the making, this film documents the challenges and desires of a group of young women in New Orleans by letting them film their own stories. As this diverse group of young women—two teenagers from the Desire housing projects, a single mother from the working-class suburb of Belle Chase across the river, and two girls from the most prestigious private high school in New Orleans—make short films about their own desires, this  film records the intimate dramas of their changing lives.  Sponsored By: Art and Visual Culture Department, Women and Gender Studies Program, Psychology Department

PHILLIPS FELLOWS PRESENTATION: Thursday, March 30th, 7:30 pm – Hirasawa Lounge. Jacob Bluestone ’07: Miradas Inocentes: Innocent Looks. Mr. Bluestone will share his experience in Bolivia where he worked closely with disadvantaged children teaching them photography and athletics. Come “open your eyes” and see Bolivia through the eyes of its children. All are welcome; refreshments will be served. Also remember to stop by Chase Hall Gallery to see more of Mr. Bluestone’s photography work with students but this time through the eyes of five Poland Regional High School students. EMERGENCY PUBLIC DEBATE: On the resolution “This house believes Bates College should adopt a Hate Crime Code” : a round table discussion about hate on campus will follow at 8:30. In the Muskie Archive at 7:30, Tomorrow night.

FORSAN HUSSEIN, an expert on the Palestinian-Israeli conflict will give a talk concerning the conflict and ways of trying to make peace. Thursday, March 30 at 8 pm in 204 Carnegie Hall.

“Rural Poverty: Christian Reflections in Action” THE BATES CHRISTIAN FELLOWSHIP is sponsoring an experimental workshop with Rural Community Action Ministry in Leeds, ME.  RCAM provides assistance to the rural poor in communities north of Lewiston.  We will have sessions on the situation in this area, Bible studies on the prophets’ and the gospels’ insights about poverty and justice, hands on work projects, and worship experiences associated with Holy Week.  All are welcome.  Cost is $125.  For more info to sign up, contact Bill wcutler by April 2nd.  Space is limited to 12 participants.
