The film follows the love affair between two cowboys, set against the backdrop of a heavily prejudiced American west. Brokeback Mountain won Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay Oscars, as well as several Best Film awards. Be sure to make time this weekend for what may well have been the best movie of the year! Five $20 Gift Certificates - Horny Toad, Patagonia, North Face and two for LL Bean - This Saturday is the final bus trip of the semester, and once again the bus will be heading to FREEPORT. It is supposed to be a nice day on Saturday, so why not take a few hours to do a little shopping. As a way of saying thank you for all of your support this semester the Student Activities Office will be giving away five $20 gift certificates to the Freeport bus riders. All you have to do to win is sign up for the bus, and then hop on the bus on Saturday - pretty simple, huh? The bus leaves from in front of Chase Hall at 12 noon, and will be back to campus by 5 pm. To sign up stop by the Student Activities Office in Chase Hall. We will be offering several trips during Short Term, so keep an eye out for further information.
In light of the tensions that have been experienced this past week, The Protestant Chapel Service on Sunday will be a SERVICE OF PRAYER AND WORSHIP FOR RECONCILIATION. The focus will be on personal and shared prayer (using prayers from the Book of Common Prayer), worship and the Eucharist as a sign of our common need and unity. All are welcome. 5:30 at the Chapel.
HILARY PUTNAM, philosopher emeritus at Harvard University, visits Bates College to address the topic "The Collapse of the Fact/Value Dichotomy" at 7:30 p.m. Monday, April 3, in Chase Hall Lounge, 56 Campus Ave. Sponsored by the Bates English department, Putnam's talk is open to the public at no charge.
WHY UPGRADE EMAIL? Behind the scenes, the upgrade will include new five servers for receiving, processing and storing e-mail, new server software that will manage messages more efficiently and a new version of Webmail. Three features of the new Webmail that students can utilize after April 18 are: Access to the complete Bates e-mail directory (LDAP) for use when entering names in the ‘To’ fields. By simply typing the beginning letters of an individual’s first name, last name or e-mail account name you will see all the matching user names. Vacation and forward messages can easily be created in Webmail. Filters set in Webmail will actually filter mail that will be read in Webmail or other e-mail programs. You’ll only have to set your filters in Webmail. Details on these features can be seen at http://www.bates.edu/emailchanges in the Helpsheets and FAQ sections. If you have any questions on the e-mail upgrade, please contact Help Desk Services at 207-786-8222.
