Johie Farrar Seltzer ’03

jseltzer@bates.edu | she/her
Senior Associate Dean of Admission & Director of Selection

As a 9th generation Mainer and first-generation to college student, Johie was determined to leave the Pine Tree State for a big university in the city.  That is until she took a tour of Bates in November of her senior year.  The sheer “possibility” of the place was intoxicating, and during her years as a student, she explored just about every academic department, was a varsity athlete (field hockey and track and field), studied abroad (New Zealand) and dabbled in music and dance performance.  After a few years of wandering after graduation, she made her way back to Lewiston and to Bates and has been working in the Office of Admission since 2005.  Johie continues to find Bates a wonderful and dynamic place to work and an equally exciting institution to represent.

Johie and her husband (Bates’ Strength and Conditioning Coach) are raising their two small children in Lewiston, just a quick bike ride from campus.  You might catch a glimpse of this little Bobcat family at the next Bates game you attend!  When not building Legos or watching Disney movies, Johie is with her extended family, gardening, camping, cooking, hunting, reading, and whenever possible, napping.
