DONNER SUMMIT, Calif. – Sean McKenna finished 24th in the men's giant slalom at the NCAA Skiing Championships at Sugar Bowl Ski Resort on Wednesday afternoon. McKenna '06 (Manchester, N.H.) finished his first run down the slope in 58.42 seconds, putting himself in 25th position. Course conditions improved for the second run, and McKenna's time of 57.45 was the 23rd-best second run of the day, moving him up one spot in the standings. Ben Thornhill of Utah defended his title in the event, winning with a combined time of 1:52.44. McKenna was less than four seconds behind the national champion. McKenna failed to finish his second run in Friday's slalom. He posted a time of 44.01 in his first run down the slope, putting him in 32nd position. After three days of competition, Bates sits in 19th place in the team standings with 18 points. McKenna contributed 16 of those points with his finish in the giant slalom. The NCAA Skiing Championship will conclude on Saturday with the men's and women's Nordic classic races. |
