Alumni Council

The Alumni Council is the governing body of the Alumni Association and serves as the primary liaison between the Association and the Bates administration, faculty, and student body. The purposes of the Alumni Council are:

  • To unite the alumni body in supporting the College
  • To promote interaction between the alumni and the College’s  administration, faculty, and student body
  • To communicate the concerns and aspirations of the alumni body to the College’s administrators.

Appointed for three-year terms, members of the Alumni Council work to create an environment where admissions, career services, development, and on- and off-campus alumni programming can be successfully conducted.

One of the Alumni Council's most important responsibilities each year is selecting alumni for appointment to the Board of Trustees.  Trustees serve five year terms, so at any give time one-quarter of Bates's forty-person Board is selected by the Alumni Council.

The Council also helps develop programs for Reunion, Homecoming, and other campus events, and supports the major networks of alumni volunteer efforts:  Alumni-in-Admissions, Career Advisory Network in OCS, Bates Fund volunteeres, class officers, and Bates Business Network leaders.

If you have questions or suggestions about Bates's alumni programs, philosophy, or goals, do not hesitate to contact the Alumni Council -- they can be one of your most effective means of communicating your ideas and concerns. Send your emails to alumni@bates.edu - be sure to put "To The Alumni Council" in the subject.
