D.C. Club Hike

Join us for an 8½ mile hike into one of the more diverse scenic areas of northern Shenandoah National Park.  Passing one of the largest continuous waterfalls in Virginia, this Overall Run/ Beecher Ridge circuit hike takes us through picturesque valley streams and meadows. From the trailhead parking area at the end of VA 630 (just south of Bentonville), we will ascend the Thompson Hollow and the Overall Run/ Tuscarora trails, crossing Overall Run three times before arriving at the main Overall Run waterfall lookout with a spectacular view of the Massanutten Range to the west.  We continue our ascent along the Mathews Arm trail to meet the Beecher Ridge trail that takes us along the mountain ridge for just over two miles before descending to join the Thompson Hollow trail to the parking area.

This trip will cover approximately 1,965 vertical feet and take about 6 hours, including lunch, breaks, and stops to admire the views.  This is considered a moderately strenuous mountain hike.  We will meet at 10AM sharp at the trailhead at the end of VA 630 (for directions, see link below).  Allow ample time to arrive; according to the website below, it takes about one hour forty-five minutes from downtown D.C. without traffic.

Bring plenty of water, pack a lunch, dress in layers and wear appropriate footwear.  Clouds and sprinkles will not deter us.  In case of heavy rain, we will postpone.  If time allows, after the hike, those interested will stop in at a vineyard and/or local inn for dinner.

To RSVP and for more information, email Jerry Donahoe.  Provide your name, address, cell phone number, and preferred email address in your message so we can communicate and coordinate prior to the hike. More hike details and driving directions can be found at:
