Multicultural and International Alumni

Bates is dedicated to fostering community and relationships between and among multicultural and international alumni, helping alumni support students and supporting all Bates initiatives around diversity and inclusion.

Read and respond to President Spencer’s invitation to alumni to the Diversity Dialogue.

The term multicultural includes all typically underrepresented populations, such as African American, Asian American, international, Jewish, Latino, LGBTQ, Native American, persons with disability and first generation college students.

In 2011 and 12, the Office of Alumni Engagement hosted a series of lively gatherings across the country entitled “Bates Listening Tour: Multicultural and Allies’ Voices.” These gatherings provided opportunity to discuss, connect, and share, with the goal of improving the connections between the college and its multicultural and international alumni. Interest in reaching out to and supporting current students from underrepresented groups is at the forefront of these discussions, as is helping to recruit new students from all sexual orientations, ethnicities, abilities, religious, spiritual and cultural traditions, gender identities, socio-economic backgrounds, and races.
