Department Concerts

160331_Dance_Dress_0789The Department of Theater and Dance produces dance concerts throughout the year. First we have the Back to Bates Weekend Dance Concert,  which highlights the breadth of the program with works by guests, faculty and students. The Fall Dance Concert celebrates the completion of the Fall Semester’s projects by faculty and guest artists. The highlight of winter semester is the Spring Dance Concert, which features student choreography of all levels from beginner to thesis.

Other performances of interest include Sankofa, Asia Night, and the Short Term Variety Show, a campus favorite produced by students in Dance Club.

Bates Dance Festival

8338841861_f51b4cc13d_oEvery summer, the Bates Dance Festival brings together an international community of choreographers, performers, educators and students in a cooperative community to study, perform and create new work. Through this community the Festival encourages a creative exchange of ideas and offers audiences a wide range of opportunities to experience contemporary dance, thus affirming the essential power of the arts to enrich our lives.

The five week season showcases acclaimed and emerging contemporary dance artists in main stage performances, free lecture/demonstrations, master classes, scholar’s notes, talks and Q & A’s.
