O’Connell scored his 10th goal of the season early in the second half to give Bates a 1-0 win over Colby in the final game of the men’s soccer regular season. The win was the 10th of the season for the Bobcats, tying the program record for wins.O’Connell finished the 2004 season as the team’s leading scorer with 10 goals and 24 points. He was named the NESCAC Player of the Week on Sept. 27.
Bates finished the season 10-4-1 after falling to Wesleyan 2-1 in overtime in the first round of the NESCAC Championship.

Zurek was named the NESCAC Volleyball Co-Player of the Week following an outstanding weekend, leading the Bobcats to NESCAC wins over Trinity, Wesleyan and Connecticut College. With the wins, Bates earned the No. 6 seed in this weekend’s NESCAC Championship.Zurek averaged 5.27 kills per game with a .429 hitting percentage in the matches, posting a career best 18 kills in a three game match vs. Trinity. Zurek had 58 kills with just seven hitting errors in 11 games.
Bates, now 15-12, faces St. Joseph’s in the regular season finale on Tuesday before opening the NESCAC Championship vs. Amherst at 8 p.m. on Friday at Williams.
