Dan Johnson finished 48th at the 2004 NCAA Division III Men’s Cross Country Championship to lead Bates to a 19th-place finish on Saturday afternoon.Johnson ’06 (Detroit Lakes, Minn.) covered the eight-kilometer course in 25:28.5, just under a minute behind the individual winner, Wartburg’s Josh Moen. Johnson was just 12 seconds from earning his first All-America honor.
The race capped a tremendous season for Bates and for Johnson. Johnson led the Bobcats in his final four races.
|Heather Taylor ’05
Heather Taylor was named the MVP of the Salem State Tournament after leading the women’s basketball team to the tournament title over the weekend.Taylor ’05 (Nobleboro, Maine) averaged 13.5 points and 6.0 rebounds in the tournament, leading Bates to an 80-49 win over Newbury in the first round and a 78-71 win over Salem State in the championship game.
Bates, now 2-0 on the season, faces the University of Southern Maine, ranked second nationally, at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
