When Tristan Beach ’06 (Grand Rapids, Mich.) steps onto the court for the men’s tennis team and the match is yet to be decided, it seems to be just another day at the beach. Or is the match on Tristan’s Beach?The Junior clinched two duel matches for the Bobcats last week, enroute to a perfect 3-0 week for both Beach and the team.
With the Colby match tied 3-3, Beach rallied from a 5-3 deficit in the third set to win the next 4 games against Colby’s Ben Crane to win 3-6, 6-3, 7-5, and also the match for Bates, 4-3.
Against the University of Rochester over the weekend, the Bobcats led the match 3-2, when Beach handled the pressure and edged Thanos Kantarelis , 7-5, 7-6 (3), to clinch the match for Bates, 4-2.
In singles play, Beach finished the week a perfect 3-0, also beating Brandeis’ Cliff Silverman, 6-1, 6-1.
Bates’ 3-0 week improved the Bobcats’ record to 7-2.

Retiring 15 of the last 16 batters she faced, Sarah Klenakis ’05 (Springfield, Mass.) pitched the Bates softball team to a 4-3 win over Brandeis University in the first game of a doubleheader last week. Scattering five hits and allowing just one earned run, Klenakis improved to 1-1 on the season.Bates is 3-1 following the doubleheader sweep over the Judges.
