Kelly Godsey, 2005 NCAA Division III Women’s New England Region Athlete of the Year

The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association has named Kelly Godsey the 2005 NCAA Division III Women’s New England Region Athlete of the Year.

Godsey, a resident of Parker, Colo.,  is a two-season athlete, a three-time New England champion and an NCAA record holder — and she still has one more year of competition remaining.

At the New England Championships, Godsey won the shot put, discus throw and hammer throw, all by substantial margins. In the hammer throw she won by 14 meters and broke her own meet record in the process.

At the NCAA Division III Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Championships, she threw four personal bests and her seventh and eighth All-America awards by winning the hammer throw and finishing second in both shot put and discus. Her effort alone propelled Bates to an eighth-place team finish.  In the hammer, she beat the competition by more than 10 feet ,and her winning throw of 195-4 set an NCAA championship record.

During the season Godsey was the New England Small College Athletic Conference shot put and hammer throw champion.  At the championships she threw 13-65 in the shot put and 61-64 in the hammer. Her first-place finishes garnered All-Conference honors.
