Women’s soccer opens up season with a victory over St. Joe’s
The Bates women’s soccer team scored three goals in the second half en route to a 5-1 victory in their season opener over St. Joseph’s College this afternoon. The Bobcats are now 1-0 on the season while the Monks fall to 1-2.
Allison Emery (Richmond/VT/Mount Mansfield) opened up the scoring only three minutes into the game with the assist from Jessie Garguilo (Boxborough, Mass./Acton-Boxboro). Garguilo then scored at 26:23 with Kim Alexander (Cumberland, Maine/Greely) earning the assist.
The Monks first open chance came at 36:23 in the second half when Megan Willette (Waterville, Maine/Waterville) ran to goal from a crossover pass by Danielle Lavoie (Madawaska, Maine/Madawaska). Mia Lidofsky’s (Providence, R.I.) diving save kept the game scoreless.
Bates struck again at 27:57 in the second half when Alexander scored from Mary Bucci (Norfolk, Mass./Bishop Feehan) to put the Bobcats up, 3-0. At 18:20 freshman Julie Brown (Lynnfield, Mass.) recorded her first career goal unassisted.
St. Joseph’s went on the board with 8:41 remaining in the game when freshman Katie Jordan (Sandwich, Mass./Sandwich) scored unassisted to give the Monks their lone goal of the game.
Bates freshman Jen Marino (Methuen, Mass.) earned her first collegiate goal at 4:54 left in the regulation with Jenna Benson (Watertown, Mass./Watertown) getting the assist.
Lidofsky stopped nine save on the day, while Morgan Meserve (Sarborough, Maine/Scarborough) posted ten. T
The Bobcats will open up conference play on Saturday, September 17 vs. Amherst at 11 a.m
