Late rally comes up short as field hockey loses 2-1 to Amherst
LEWISTON, Maine — Amherst’s Rachel Carr-Harris (Pleasantville, NY/Pleasantville) scored the game-winning goal with 24:31 remaining in the second half as Bates (0-2, 0-1) fell to Amherst (3-0, 2-0) 2-1 in the Bobcats’ conference opener.
Rachel Greenwood (Williamstown, Mass./St. Mark’s School) scored with 14:20 remaining in the second half off a Lindsey Ferguson (Barrington, N.H./Barrington) assist to bring the Bobcats within one, but the team could not add another goal despite outshooting Amherst 10-2 in the half and adding four penalty corners.
Erin O’Hare (Bowdoinham, Maine/North Yarmouth Academy) scored the lone goal of the first half for the visitors at 15:41 on an assist from Katherine Skrivan (St. Louis, Mo./Clayton).
Bates tallied seven first half shots, one fewer than the visiting Lord Jeffs.
Sarah Judice (Granby, Conn./Granby) stopped five shots for Bates, while Amherst goalkeeper Kathleen Boucher (Washington, D.C./Holy Child) recorded seven saves.
Bates plays against Connecticut College next Saturday at noon.
