Men’s soccer wins in OT over UNE
LEWISTON, Maine – Brent Morin (Hanover, N.H./Hotchkiss) scored the game winning goal in overtime in a tightly contested men’s soccer match against University of New England.
The Bobcats are now 4-1-1 in their fourth consecutive victory, while UNE falls to 2-5-1.
Terrence O’Connell (Greenwich, Conn./Greenwich) knocked in the first goal of the game to give an early 1-0 lead only :52 into the game. At 33:40, Tyler Stratton (Fairfax, N.H.) tied the game with Jake Merriman (North Sandwich, Mass.) assisting.
In the second half, the Bobcats had key chances with 11 shots, but could not convert on any opportunities. Morin scored unassisted at 5:46 into overtime when the ball reflected off of UNE’s goalkeeper.
The Bobcats outshot UNE 29-9. Rob Munro (Walpole, Mass./Xaverian Borthers) recorded seven saves, while Jon Moriarty (Sandown, N.H.) stopped 14.
Bates will play host to Tufts on Saturday at 2 p.m
