Bates golf posts best-ever NESCAC tournament finish

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Sophomore Jake Cox led the Bates golf team to a seventh-place finish at the 2005 NESCAC championships, the best Bobcat performance ever at the conference championship.

Cox shot a two-day total of 152 (78-74), five strokes off tournament medalist George Boudria of Trinity College. Junior Chris Foster shot 160 (82-78), sophomore Alex Jacobson shot 163 (79-84) and senior captain Nate Purinton shot 171 (80-91) to round out Bates’ top four scores. The Williams team won the event by seven strokes with a total of 611. Hamilton was second and Trinity third. The Bobcats (646) finished ahead of CBB rivals Bowdoin (659) and Colby (720) as well as Wesleyan (662) and Connecticut College (703). Team standings:

Bates returns to action at the USM Scramble, at Sable Oaks in South Portland, on Oct. 7 and concludes the season at the New England Intercollegiate Golf Championships at the Captains Courses in Brewster, Mass., Oct. 17- 18.
