|Jake Cox ’08
Playing in his first season with the Bates College golf team, sophomore Jake Cox (Sammamish, Wash.) led the Bobcats to their best performance at a New England Small College Athletic Conference championship, a seventh-place finish. Cox’s feat earned him second-team All-NESCAC honors.Despite finishing his second day with a double-bogey, Cox’s score of 74 on the championship’s second day in Williamstown, Mass., was tied for the fourth-best of the day, and his two-day score of a 10-over-par 152 was eighth-best overall, five strokes off tournament medalist George Boudria of Trinity College.
The Bobcats (646) finished ahead of CBB rivals Bowdoin (659) and Colby (720) as well as Wesleyan (662) and Connecticut College (703).
|Becky Macdonald ’07
Bates junior defender Becky Macdonald (Danvers, Mass.) was named the Bates Female Player of the Week for scoring the game-winning goal against Husson College on Sunday.Despite dominating play against the visiting Eagles, outshooting them by a 30-5 margin, the game was tied 1-1 until eight minutes remained in regulation.
That’s when Macdonald broke up a clearing attempt by a Husson defender, pivoted near the corner of the penalty box and guided her shot inside the near post to give the Bobcats (6-2) the lead for good. It was Macdonald’s second goal of the season.
The goal allowed Bates to rebound from the previous day’s double-overtime loss against Tufts. The Bobcats return to play on Saturday at Williams College.
