Bates tennis teams sponsor clothing drive for hurricane victims
LEWISTON, Maine — If all goes well, a truck will be loaded with clothing and shoes and bound for Louisiana by the end of Wednesday evening.
Spurred by a nationwide call to action from the tennis programs at Louisiana State University, the Bates College men’s and women’s tennis teams have organized a clothing drive to be held on campus from 4 to 10 p.m. Wednesday.
Students and townspeople are encouraged to drop off new or gently-used warm-weather clothing and/or footwear to assist families in need in the Greater New Orleans Gulf Coast Region. There will be pizza, music and plenty of tennis going on to observe or participate in.
Weather permitting, the event will be held at the outdoor Wallach Tennis Center. If not, the clothing drive will move inside Merrill Gymnasium.
