Golf team places 21st among Division III teams at NEIGA Championship
BREWSTER, Mass. — Competing at the New England Intercollegiate Golf Association Championship at The Captains Golf Course Oct. 17-18, the Bates College golf team placed 21st among Division III teams.
With an overall two-day score of 688, or 112 strokes over par, the Bobcats were 40th overall, ahead of such institutions as Providence College, Wesleyan University and Boston University.
Sophomore Alex Jacobson (Newton, Mass.) led Bates, shooting an 83 and an 84 for a two-day total of 167, or 23 over par, tied for 70th among Division III players and 121st overall.
Junior Chris Foster (Scarsdale, N.Y.) followed with a 28-over-par score of 172, tied for 154th overall. Sophomore Jake Cox (Sammamish, Wash.) was right behind at 173, tied for 165th overall.
Senior Sam Haaz (Flourtown, Pa.) carded a 92 and 87 for a 35-over-par 179, tied for 198th overall, and classmate Nate Purinton (Toledo, Ohio) followed at 181, tied for 206th overall.
The University of Rhode Island won the overall team title, with a plus-16 592. The top Division III team was Husson College, with a plus-36 612.
