Regionally top-ranked Colby sweeps Bates volleyball team, 3-0
LEWISTON, Maine — Colby College’s volleyball team, ranked No. 1 in New England, served up no surprises Wednesday night. Just another victory.
Colby swept host Bates College 30-11, 30-14, 30-19, to increase its record to 24-2, and 7-0 in the New England Small College Athletic Conference.
In their final home matches for the Bobcats (5-18, 1-6), Liz Santy (Farmington, Conn.) had six kills and Jasmine McDavid (Brooklyn, N.Y.) had four. Katie Graeff (Chevy Chase, Md.) handed out 12 assists to go with 10 digs.
Colby senior outside hitter Cait Cleaver (Kennett Square, Pa.) surpassed the 1,500 mark in career kills, as her two-game total of seven in the match pushed her total to 1,504, far outdistancing the previous school record of 1,304 set by Amanda Cuiffo. Cleaver also had six service aces and eight digs.
Kaitlin Adams added 10 kills, eight aces and four kills for the Mules, while Jenny Lawrence had 26 assists and Kendall Kirby and Cassie Sancartier had 10 and 12 digs, respectively.
Bates plays at the Hall of Fame Tournament this weekend, hosted by Smith College.
