Morin named NESCAC Player of the Week in men’s soccer

LEWISTON, Maine — Sophomore forward Brent Morin has been named the Player of the week by the New England Small College Athletic Conference for his outstanding efforts over the past week with the Bates College men’s soccer team.

Morin (Hanover, N.H.) figured in all six of Bates’ goals in a 1-1-0 week for the Bobcats and took over the league lead in scoring in the process. He achieved his first collegiate hat trick in Bates’ 4-2 win over Plymouth State on Wednesday, as the Bobcats handed the visitors only their second loss this season. Morin assisted senior Terence O’Connell (Greenwich, Conn.) on Bates’ other goal. In the meantime, he tied O’Connell for the NESCAC lead with 10 goals apiece.

In the Bobcats’ 4-2 loss on Saturday against Middlebury, Morin scored Bates’ first goal and assisted first-year Greg Nelson (Greenwich, Conn.) on the other.

With 11 goals, Morin leads the NESCAC and owns the highest season total in school history since at least the mid-1990s. The school record is 17 goals, achieved by Bob Lanz in 1965.
