Marino named NESCAC women’s soccer Player of the Week

HADLEY, Mass. — First-year forward Jen Marino (Methuen, Mass.) was named NESCAC Player of the Week on Monday, the day after her goal in second overtime gave Bates its first women’s soccer conference championship.

Marino, a reserve left wing, picked a great time to collect her first career game-winning goal, and her fourth of the season. With the championship game knotted at 1-1 against top-seeded Tufts, Marino pursued a free ball as it headed toward Tufts goaltender Annie Ross. Ross was unable to control the ball, and Marino’s hustle put her in place to volley the ball over Ross and into the goal.

Bates (13-3-1) advances to the NCAA Division III Tournament, where it will face Eastern Connecticut State University on Saturday in the first round at Tufts.
