Bates men win Paul Bunyan Tournament at Husson
Rob Stockwell has been named MVP in both tournaments that Bates has played in this season.
BANGOR, Maine — Bates junior forward Rob Stockwell scored 17 points with 15 rebounds to lead the sharp-shooting Bobcats over Husson College in the championship game of the Paul Bunyan Tournament Saturday at Husson.
Bates (5-2) shot 57.1 percent from the floor and outrebounded the host Eagles by a 36-18 margin in the game.
Stockwell (Temple, N.H.) was named the tournament’s MVP, and joined junior guard Zak Ray (Bangor, Maine) on the all-tournament team. Ray totalled 10 points, eight assists and four steals in the victory.
Eight players scored six points or more for the Bobcats, led by Stockwell and sophomore guard Bryan Wholey, who scored 14 points. Senior Sean Cahill (Worcester, Mass.) scored 12 points on 3-for-3 shooting from the floor. Juniors John Lattimer (Atlanta) and Sam Taylor (Redwood City, Calif.) were both 3-for-3 in field goal shooting as well.
Buddy Leavitt scored a game-high 20 points for the Eagles (1-4), and Tyler Muzzy added 17 points off the bench. John Harvey had 13 points and seven assists.
Bates plays host to NESCAC rival Bowdoin College on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in a non-league contest.
