HADLEY, Mass. — Junior center Meg Coffin’s big return to action for the Bates women’s basketball team netted her Player of the Week honors from the New England Small College Athletic Conference on Monday.
Coffin (Westford, Mass.) spurred a 3-0 week for the Bobcats, who topped Husson College 87-48 in the team’s home opener, then won the Williams College Tournament over the weekend with victories over Worcester State and Williams.
Coffin, who missed the team’s first three games with back pain that was carried over from soccer season, played an all-around gem in her return to action against Husson, with 17 points, 10 rebounds, five assists, five blocked shots and five steals.
She continued her strong play at the Williams Tournament, getting named to the All-Tournament team (along with senior teammate Annie Whiting, who was named MVP) as Bates doused Worcester State 81-57 and beat Williams 78-64 Sunday in the championship game.
After three games, Coffin averages 18.3 points, 9.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 2.0 blocks and 1.7 steals and is shooting a whopping 76.7 percent from the floor.
