First-year transfer Jackie Powers named NESCAC Player of the Week

Jackie Powers ’09

HADLEY, Mass. — Not too shabby a start for Jackie Powers. Only four collegiate games under her belt, and without having even taken a class yet, the first-year guard has already been named a NESCAC Player of the Week.

Powers, a transfer student who enrolled at Boston College last fall after gaining admission to Bates last spring, is the second Bates women’s basketball player to win the conference honor this season, following junior center Meg Coffin (Dec. 5).

The former Andover (Mass.) High School standout earned tournament MVP honors over the weekend at the Holiday Inn-Naismith Classic at Springfield College. In Bates’ wins over Springfield (83-51) and Trinity University of Texas (76-71 OT), Powers averaged 18.5 points on 50 percent shooting from the floor (14-for-28), 2.0 assists and 2.5 steals.
