HANOVER, N.H. — Bates College sophomores Noah Gauthier and Matt Lopez both scored points in the men’s 35-pound throw amid a strong field at the Dartmouth Relays over the weekend at Leverone Field House.

Gauthier (Amherst, N.H.) achieved a new personal best with a 54 feet, 0.5 inch throw, his best by a whopping 6 feet and 4 inches. Gauthier qualified for the finals and placed sixth overall, second among collegians in a field that included many outstanding post-collegian throwers.

Gauthier’s mark was also a provisional national qualifying mark, his first in the weight throw.

Lopez (Lexington, Mass.) narrowly missed qualifying for the finals, but his 46-foot, 3.25-inch heave was 10th overall, fifth among collegians and also a personal best by eight inches.

From Gauthier’s and Lopez’s representation alone, Bates earned 10 total points and placed 11th out of 14 American and Canadian colleges and universities.

The full Bates men’s team will compete this weekend at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy.
