MWBCA honors Bobcats’ Coffin, Powers

LEWISTON, Maine — Bates College women’s basketball players Meg Coffin and Jackie Powers were each honored by the Maine Women’s Basketball Coaches Association this week.
Coffin, a 6-1 junior center from Westford, Mass., was named Co-Player of the Week by the MWBCA along with Alyssa Burns of Maine Maritime Academy. Coffin posted 24 points and 10 rebounds in Bates’ win at Colby on Wednesday and 17 points, 11 rebounds in a win over Simmons College on Thursday.
Coffin currently ranks first in the New England Small College Athletic Conference in rebounding (11.2 rpg) and field goal percentage (.583), and is second in the NESCAC in scoring (17.4 ppg), steals (2.90 spg) and blocked shots (1.60).
Powers, a first-year transfer to Bates from Andover, Mass., was named MVP of the Holiday Inn-Naismith Classic at Springfield College on Jan. 2, and is averaging 13.0 points and 1.67 steals in her six games with the Bobcats (8-5).
