Alpine events at Sugarloaf moved back one day
WATERVILLE, Maine —- The Bates College alpine and Nordic ski teams will open up the winter season at the Colby College Carnival this weekend, when the Mules host an Eastern Intercollegiate Ski Association (EISA) event at Sugarloaf USA on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
The alpine events have been postponed for Friday because high winds knocked out power that affects the timing system and the communications from the start and finish lines. The winds were so fierce on Thursday that officials decided to wait until Friday morning to fix the problems.
The Nordic events will stay on schedule with racing Friday and Saturday. The Nordic teams will compete in the classic sprint on Friday starting at 9 a.m.
The alpine racing begins now on Saturday with the giant slalom and the Nordic skiers will finish up their competition with the freestyle mass start (20K for men, 15K for women).
The slalom racing for the alpine skiers will now take place on Sunday.
University of Vermont, Dartmouth College, University of New Hampshire, Middlebury College, Williams College, Bowdoin College, Bates College, St. Lawrence University and St. Michael’s College will be competing.
