Bates men’s squash team upends Tufts, 8-1

LEWISTON, Maine – The Bates College men’s squash team defeated Tufts University 8-1 on Saturday and won by default over Northeastern University, raising the Bobcats’ record to 10-7.

Sophomore All-American Ricky Weisskopf (San Salvador, El Salvador) continued his impressive season at the No. 1 position by beating the Jumbos’ No. 1, Jake Gross (Washington, D.C.) in straight sets, 9-2, 9-2, 9-1. Weisskopf is now 15-1 in head-to-head play.

Bates saw two wins come in five sets: first-year Marc Taggart (Skippack, Pa.) at No. 7 and senior Guillermo Moronta (Cambridge, Mass.) at No. 9. Winning 3-0 results were sophomore Sean Wilkinson (London, England) at No. 2, junior Gary Kan (Hong Kong) at No. 3, senior Jamie White (Summit, N.J.) at No. 4, senior Pete Goldsborough (Falmouth, Mass.) at No. 5, and first-year Chip Russell (West Hartford, Conn.) at No. 6.

Bates plays St. Lawrence University at 10 a.m. on Sunday at the Bates Squash Center.
