Men’s Nordic team shows depth in 20K Classic at Dartmouth Carnival

HANOVER, N.H. — The Bates College men’s Nordic ski team placed fourth out of 12 teams in the 10K Classic to lead the Bates ski teams to sixth place out of 15 teams at the Dartmouth College Winter Carnival over the weekend.
First-year Sylvan Ellefson (Vail, Colo.) led the Bobcats in the 10K Classic on Saturday, with an 11th-place time of 28:36.4. Senior Seth Hubbard was close behind in 15th out of 66 finishers, while Dan Johnson came in 27th and Matt Dunlap came in 34th. Connor Cushman and Dylan Mogk were 37th and 38th, respectively, as Bates showed off impressive depth in the event.
Hubbard (Farmington, Maine) had a breakthrough performance in the 20K Mass Start Free Technical event on Friday, finishing fourth out of 65 finishers in a time of 55:38.2. Mogk came in 25th, followed by Cushman in 34th, Johnson in 38th and Dunlap in 48th.
On the women’s side, junior Kaitlyn McElroy (Bethel, Maine) again was the Bates leader in the 5K Classic, placing 12th overall out of 55 competitors in 16:50.9. Haleigh Armstrong came in 22nd, Lauren Jacobs was 35th, Nicole Ritchie was 40th and Alissa Praggastis was 42nd.
McElroy was Bates’ top finisher in Friday’s 15K Mass Start Free Technical race, placing 20th out of 54 competitors in a time of 45:08.6. Following her were Armstrong in 30th, Jacobs in 38th, Praggastis in 42nd, Ritchie in 45th and Emily Poole in 48th.
Bates competes at the Williams College Carnival next weekend.
