Tibbetts earns points for Bates as New Englands get under way
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — Bates College junior Andrew Tibbetts got the Bates men’s indoor track and field team off to a good start in the New England Division III championships at MIT, scoring fifth overall in the pentathlon.
Tibbetts (Dedham, Mass.) scored a personal-best 2,976 points in the event to earn four points for the Bobcats. Sophomore Michael Canova (Topsfield, Mass.) came in 12th place out of 16 competitors with 2,716 points, and classmate Jack Murphy (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) finished right behind him in 13th place with 2,645 points.
The event continues Saturday at MIT, while the women’s New England Division III championships take place at nearby Tufts University.
