Alpine team’s McKenna shines at Williams College Carnival

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Senior Sean McKenna led the Bates College alpine ski team with top-10 finishes in the giant slalom and slalom at the Williams College Winter Carnival.
McKenna (Manchester, N.H.) was ninth out of 62 finishers in the giant slalom Friday at Jiminy Peak, then seventh out of 45 finishers Saturday in the slalom.
Bates’ alpine and Nordic ski teams combined to place sixth out of 11 teams at the Carnival with 555.5 points, between Williams (575) and Colby (494).
Sophomore Leo Menard (Biddeford, Maine) came in 20th in the giant slalom and 17th in the slalom. Dan Loman was 21st and 26th in those respective events, while Kevin Berry was 29th and 22nd.
First-year Megan Papineau was 13th out of 51 finishers in the giant slalom on Friday and 17th out of 52 in the slalom on Saturday. Emily Sampson was 31st and 14th, Perry Kleeman was 26th and 25th, and Madeline McLean was 46th and 26th.
Bates heads to the Middlebury College Carnival next weekend.
