Men’s squash beats Bowdoin for 13th place at Team Nationals

From top to bottom, Ricky Weisskopf, Jamie White and Chip Russell all went unbeaten over the weekend to help Bates earn its final team ranking at No. 13.

PRINCETON, N.J. — The Bates College men’s squash team lived up to its seeding and beat Bowdoin one more time on Sunday, 7-2, to earn 13th place in the final team rankings in the College Squash Association Sunday.

Placed in the Hoehn “B” Division, the groups ranked ninth through 16th overall, at the Team Nationals at Princeton University, No. 13 ranked Bates dropped a 5-4 decision to Franklin & Marshall on Friday, sending the Bobcats into the losers’ bracket of the division. On Saturday, Bates bounced back with an 8-1 defeat of No. 16 Tufts University.

No. 14 Bowdoin, meanwhile, lost 7-2 to Amherst, then defeated Navy 5-4 in the loser’s bracket, setting up the fourth meeting this month between the in-state rivals. The Bobcats entered the match 3-0 against the Polar Bears, owning a 5-4 win at Bowdoin on Feb. 1, a 7-2 victory at Bates on Feb. 7, and a 5-4 win in the opening round of the NESCAC Invitational Feb. 11 at Trinity College.
