NEW HAVEN, Conn. — Bates College sophomore Noah Gauthier took first place in the 35-pound weight throw to highlight the men’s track and field team’s day at the Trinity Last Chance indoor track and field meet, held Friday at Yale University.
Gauthier threw the weight 58 feet and 4 inches, his personal best, moving him up two places in the national rankings to improve his provisional qualifying standing for the NCAA Division III indoor championships, which are held next weekend at St. Olaf College.
Bates’ 4×400 relay team also finished first. Seniors Joel Colony and Adam Macbeth and juniors Matt Capone and Sam Thomas were not at full strength, but ran 3:22.11, what head coach Al Fereshetian called “hopefully a nice tuneup” for NCAAs, for which the quartet has provisionally qualified.
