Weisskopf, Wilkinson shine at CSA individual nationals
AMHERST, Mass. — Bates College sophomore Ricky Weisskopf (San Salvador, El Salvador) won his first match at the College Squash Association Individual Championships this weekend at Amherst College, cementing his All-America status for the second straight year.
Seeded 14th in the Men’s Potter, or A, Division, Weisskopf downed No. 20 William Cheng in the opening round 9-1, 9-2, 6-9, 9-0, to reach the ranks of the top 16 players in the nation.
Weisskopf then lost to No. 4 Shaun Johnstone of Trinity, 9-4, 9-1, 9-2, putting him in the second-round consolation bracket, where he lost to Trinity’s Sahil Vora 9-3, 9-5, 9-0.
In the Molloy Division, or B Draw, Bates sophomore Sean Wilkinson (London, England) won two matches to advance to the quarterfinals before losing to Harvard’s Nicholas Hrdy 9-3, 9-1, 1-9, 9-6. Wilkinson first defeated Bowdoin’s Matthew Dresher 9-4, 9-4, 4-9, 9-7, then surprised second-seeded Andrew Zimmerman of the University of Pennsylvania 10-9, 9-0, 9-7.
