Game 1 Box Score Game 2 Box Score
PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. — Likely worn out from a marathon day of baseball on Friday, the Bates College baseball team’s pitching staff was exploited by Ramapo College on Saturday in a doubleheader, and the Roadrunners came away with 14-7 and 14-3 victories.
The Bobcats, who played 32 innings over three games on Friday, conclude their season-opening Florida trip at 3-3. They’ll host UMaine-Farmington Tuesday at 3 p.m.
In Game 1, sophomore Brian Mahoney (Sudbury, Mass.) collected four of Bates 10 hits, including an RBI double in Bates’ four-run fourth inning, and drove in two runs. Sophomores Alex Egelson (Fairfield, Conn.) and Denis Hogan (Franklin, Mass.) scored two runs apiece.
Junior starting pitcher Peter Meisel (Newtown, Conn.) accepted the loss, allowing nine runs in five innings. Sophomore Simon Griesbach (West Bend, Wis.) pitched an inning of relief.
In Game 2, sophomore Casey McCormack (Keene, N.H.) collected three of Bates’ 10 hits, which were all singles. Bates answered Ramapo’s three-run first inning with three of its own in the bottom of the first, but that would be the extent of the Bobcats’ scoring, while the Roadrunners (5-5) tacked on seven more runs over the next two innings to pull away.
Sophomore starter Robert Patton (Darien, Conn.) took the loss, and first-year Ben Thayer (Gorham, Maine) pitched four innings of relief, allowing four runs, three earned.
