Men’s track places 2nd out of 17 teams at Snowflake Classic

MEDFORD, Mass. — The Bates College men’s track and field team had an impressive beginning of the outdoor season on Saturday, finishing second out of 17 teams at Tufts University’s Snowflake Classic.

The Bobcats scored 111.5 points, just behind first-place Dartmouth College (116) and just ahead of third-place Tufts (107.5).

Bates had no individual event winners but showed off its depth with seven second-place finishes and four third-place showings.

Second-place finishers for Bates included: senior Joel Colony in the 100 meters (11.22 seconds); senior Dan Johnson in both the 800 (1:59.45) and the 1,500 (4:06.45); Matt Biggart in the 10,000 (33:53.41); Andrew Percy in the 3,000 steeplechase (10:19.11); Emmanuel Drabo in the triple jump (13.42 meters) and the 4×400 relay team of Colony, Matt Capone, Sam Murphy and Sam Thomas (3:27.33).

Registering third-place showings were Colony in the 200 (22.58 seconds), C.J. Murray in the 5,000 (15:55.58), Matt Dunlap in the 10,000 (34:10.11) and Noah Gauthier in the shot put (14.21 meters).

Bates hosts the Bates Invitational on April 14-15.
