SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — Bates College senior Kathleen Nugent (Buxton, Maine) broke the school record in the 100-meter hurdles on Thursday, the first day of the women’s heptathlon at the NCAA Division III New England Regional Track and Field Championships at Springfield College.
Nugent ran the 100 hurdles in 15.81 seconds, shaving 0.21 seconds off of Shannon Walker’s previous 12-year-old mark, which Nugent had tied earlier this season.
After four events in the heptathlon, Nugent is in second place with 2,458 points, while first-year teammate Izzy Alexander (Harvard, Mass.) is in third place with 2,313 points.
The remaining three events of the heptathlon, along with the rest of the meet, gets under way Friday, including senior 13-time All-American Keelin Godsey in his best event, the hammer throw.
