HADLEY, Mass. — Five members of the Bates College men’s lacrosse team were named All-NESCAC, the conference announced Wednesday, including sophomore midfielder Brent Morin (Hanover, N.H.) as the Bobcats’ lone First Team selection. Honors were voted on by the conference head coaches.

Named Second Team All-NESCAC from a Bates team that went 9-5 this season, including 5-4 in league contests, are junior attack Matt Erisman (Nantucket, Mass.), senior goalkeeper Paul Kazarian (Providence, R.I.), and senior defensemen BJ Majeski (Norwalk, Conn.) and Ryan O’Connor (Avon, Conn.).

It is the first All-NESCAC honor for each of the Bobcats.

Named Player of the Year was Bowdoin senior attack Connor Fitzgerald. Rookie of the Year was Colby attack Caddy Brooks. Wesleyan’s John Raba was named Coach of the Year.

Morin was Bates’ top offensive midfielder, and the third leading scorer on the team with 17 goals and nine assists. Among his best performances were scoring two goals and three assists in a win over Amherst, tallying four goals in an overtime win over Trinity, and scoring twice in the regular-season finale against Middlebury. Morin was also the leading scorer for Bates’ men’s soccer team in 2005, and a 2005 Second Team All-NESCAC selection.

Erisman led the Bobcats in scoring with 21 goals and 13 assists. Among his best games were scoring three goals with two assists against Amherst, notching three assists against Wesleyan, scoring four goals against Trinity, and totalling four goals and two assists against Colby. Erisman was named NESCAC Player of the Week on April 10.

Kazarian, a team co-captain, ranked second in the NESCAC in both goals-against average (7.06) and save percentage (.611). He was named NESCAC Co-Player of the Week on March 13.

Majeski and O’Connor were equally instrumental in Bates’ allowing only 7.08 goals per game, the second-lowest rate in the conference. Majeski covered the opponent’s best attackman in each game. O’Connor led the Bobcats in ground balls with 47.
