NEILA names Bates’ Morin, O’Connor to All-New England lacrosse team

Brent Morin ’08

Ryan O’Connor ’06

LEWISTON, Maine — Bates College men’s lacrosse players Brent Morin and Ryan O’Connor were each named to the 2006 All-New England team by the New England Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association on Thursday.

Morin, a sophomore midfielder from Hanover, N.H., was named to the Division III First Team; O’Connor, a senior defenseman from Avon, Conn., made the Second Team.

Morin was named First Team All-NESCAC last week. He was the top offensive midfielder for Bates (9-5), and the third leading scorer on the team with 17 goals and nine assists. Among his top performances were scoring two goals and three assists in a win over Amherst, tallying four goals in an overtime win over Trinity, and scoring twice in the regular-season finale against Middlebury. Morin was also the leading scorer for Bates’ men’s soccer team in 2005, and a 2005 Second Team All-NESCAC selection.

O’Connor, who was an All-NESCAC Second Team selection last week, was an instrumental component of Bates’ stingy defense, which allowed only 7.08 goals per game, the second-lowest rate in the NESCAC. O’Connor led the Bobcats in ground balls with 47.
