Men’s track team ties for 8th out of 54 teams at ECACs

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — The Bates College men’s track and field team scored 29 points to finish the ECAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships in a tie for eighth place out of 54 scoring teams at Springfield College.
The Bobcats were just short of Widener University (30) and Springfield (33), and were tied with Rochester Institute of Technology.
Bates sophomore John Miley (Hanson, Mass.) finished second in the decathlon with 6,010 points, scoring eight points, while meeting the provisional qualifying standard for the NCAA Division III Championships.
Senior Joel Colony (Harrisville, N.H.) came in third place in the 400-meter dash at 48.79 seconds, scoring six points, while junior teammate Sam Thomas (Richmond, Va.) finished seventh in 49.44 seconds, for two more points.
Bates sophomore Noah Gauthier (Amherst, N.H.) finished fifth in the shot put at 49 feet, 11.25 inches, scoring four points, and came in seventh in the hammer throw at 172 feet, 4 inches, scoring two additional points.
Senior Dan Johnson (Detroit Lakes, Minn.) placed seventh in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at 9:42.31, for two points.
Colony and Thomas teamed up with junior Matt Capone (Auburn, Maine) and junior Sam Murphy (St. Paul, Minn.) to come in fourth place in the 4×400 relay race, at 3:19.39, scoring the Bobcats’ final five points of the meet.
