FREDERICKSBURG, Va. — Bates College seniors Tristan Beach (Grand Rapids, Mich.) and Will Boe-Wiegaard (Georgetown, Conn.) advanced to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Division III Men’s Tennis Doubles Championship Saturday at the University of Mary Washington, defeating Tim Riskie and Arturo Solis of Washington (Md.) College in straight sets, 7-5, 6-4.
Beach and Boe-Wiegaard move on to play against UC-Santa Cruz’s Matt Seeberger and Shane Templeman, who won in three sets over a duo from Gustavus Adolphus College on Saturday. The match is scheduled for Sunday at 2:30 p.m.
The Bates duo’s victory capped a perfect day for Boe-Wiegaard, who won two singles matches earlier Saturday to advance to the quarterfinals of the Singles Championships. Boe-Wiegaard defeated Seeberger in the second round, avenging his defeat in the championship match of the 2005 singles tournament.
